Awards
The Maritime Asia Awards 2000 were
staged at Singapore's Shangri La Hotel in front of 470
of the industry's leading executives on September 28.
The winners, selected by a team of 19 judges, were chosen
from more than 48 people and companies nominated as
awards finalists by readers of Lloyd's List Maritime
Asia, Lloyd's List, and Lloyd's Freight Transport Buyer
Asia.
Winners named at the event included Hyundai Mipo Dockyard
as the best ship repair yard; Hyundai Heavy Industries
as the best shipbuilder; Maersk Sealand as the best
mainline operator; Wan Hai Lines as the best intra-Asian
operator; PSA Corp. as the best container terminal;
the Port of Tanjung Pelepas as the best emerging container
terminal; Den Norske Bank as the best ship finance bank;
Det Norske Veritas as the best classification society;
UK P&I Club as the best P&I Club and Singapore
Polytechnic as the Best Seafarer Training Institute.
Wallem Ship Management scooped two awards: for Best
Ship Manager and Best Crewing Agent.
The four bunker industry-related awards were: Chemoil
Corporation for Best Innovation in the Bunker Industry,
the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore for Best
Bunkering Policy, Gearbulk for Best Bunker Buyer and
KNV Petroleum Services won the award for Best Bunkering
in Asia.
Soedarpo Sastrosatomo, chairman of Samudera Group, was
awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for nurturing Samudera
from a small Indonesian shipping line to one of the
region's leading transportation and supply chain services
groups. |
