PSA, S'pore Poly get maritime awards
[SINGAPORE] PSA Corporation was
again named the best container terminal while the Singapore
Polytechnic was honoured as the best seafarer training
institute in Asia in the Lloyd's List Maritime Asia
Awards last night. Indonesia's Soedarpo Sastrosatomo,
chairman of the Samudera Group, was also inducted into
Asia's Maritime Hall of Fame for a lifetime of achievement.
He was honoured for building Samudera from a small Indonesian
shipping line to one of the region's leading transportation
and supply chain service groups. Others recognised included
the Malaysian Port of Tanjung Pelepas, voted the best
emerging container terminal, Maersk Sealand (Denmark),
best mainline operator and UK P&I Club, best P&I
Club. Speaking at the awards dinner Minister of State
for Communications and Information Technology John Chen
said Singapore remained the busiest port in the world
with more than 141,000 ship calls last year totalling
877 million tons. |
